A note about DBS applications for Individuals


Current legislation does not allow individuals to obtain a Standard or Enhanced DBS Check on themselves for personal reasons, such as checking what is on their criminal record.  

Only "Regulated Activity Providers" can obtain a Standard or Enhanced DBS check.

The service we provide via this website enables eligible Self-employed individuals, personal employees, small businesses, or recruiting Organisations to obtain 1 x DBS check only.  

Many other Registered DBS Umbrella Bodies require a minimum number of DBS applications. We recognise that small businesses may not necessarily need more than one DBS check, and so we can provide this for you.  

We provide an online DBS application system that is a simple, secure and efficient DBS checking service.  


Please note:  All 3 points of the Eligibility Criteria below must be met:

Eligibility Criteria for Single DBS Checks 

(note: all 3 points must be met):


  1. You must be a UK Resident, and
  2. You must be:
    • A Self-Employed Individual: A Self-Employed person is an individual who works for themselves rather than being employed by an organisation. For example, a private maths tutor who offers one-to-one lessons.
    • A Small Business/Recruiting Organisation that only needs a DBS check on one person and is employing the individual to carry out the service under their Company Name. Note: If you are a Business or Recruiting Organisation that needs a DBS check on two or more people, please go to our sister website: www.dbsdirect.co.uk
    • A Personal Employee:  A Personal Employee is someone employed directly by a private individual to deliver services either to them or a member of their family. For example, someone with a Personal Health Budget may directly employ an individual as a carer - this person would be a personal employee.
  3. The role that is being carried out by the individual must be eligible for a DBS Check (as stipulated by relevant law).
